Residents of all ages in Newton on Ouse are set to get a new community play park thanks to a £78,000.00 grant from FCC Communities Foundation and a £500 grant from Easingwold Lions.
The money will be used to provide modern inclusive play equipment, resurfacing of the play area and refurbishment to existing play equipment. The new space will cater to a broader age range, ensuring that every child, regardless of ability, can enjoy a fulfilling play experience in the village.
Stephen Calvert, Chair of Nooca says “The long history of the playground as a cherished space in the village underscores its importance as a social and recreational landmark. It's more than just a play area; it's a venue where generations of families have congregated, forming lasting memories and bonds within the community. Recognizing this, we aim to rejuvenate the play area into a modern, multifunctional space that continues to serve as a focal point for families in the community.”

FCC Communities Foundation is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community through the Landfill Communities Fund.
Stephen Calvert says, “With generous support from the FCC Communities Foundation, the Parish Council and fundraising initiatives by individuals and local groups we are pleased to announce that we have appointed Streetscape as principal contractors for the project and work will start in the very near future.”

The Landfill Communities Fund and Scottish Landfill Communities Fund - any waste that is discarded which cannot be reused, reprocessed, or recycled may ultimately be disposed of in a landfill site. To encourage the re-use, recycle and recovery of more value from waste and use more environmentally friendly methods of waste disposal, Landfill Tax is charged on each tonne of waste sent to landfill. Landfill Operators (LOs) can redirect a small proportion of landfill tax liability to support a wide range of community and environmental projects in the vicinity of landfill sites through the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF) and Scottish Landfill Communities Fund (SLCF). The LCF is regulated by ENTRUST on behalf of HM Revenue & Customs, and the projects are delivered by enrolled Environmental bodies (EBs). The SLCF is regulated by SEPA on behalf of Revenue Scotland and projects are delivered by Approved Bodies (ABs).
